Data breaches are expensive affairs to endure, that much we all know for certain. That being said, every business and organization is unique. Who is to say that a breach of confidential information would cost one business the same as it would another?
Every year, the Ponemon Institute conducts a study to answer this exact question. Sponsored by IBM, the "2017 Cost of Data Breach Study" examined data breaches at 419 different companies around the globe. Based off this data, IBM has built a very handy tool that can estimate the likely cost of a data breach for a given business. Take a look below.
How To Use This Calculator:
Location: Select the region of the globe where your business operates.
Industry: Select your industry
Cost Factors: A variety of factors play a role in determining the final cost of a data breach, referred to as "cost factors". The calculator features 20 factors, the presence (or lack thereof) of which will significantly affect the final cost of said data breach. Select the factors that are most applicable to your organization.
