Rooted in DFW: The Sagiss Origin Story
Published: August 1, 2025 Updated: August 1, 2025

When it comes to IT services, expertise is only part of the story. The strongest IT partnerships are built on trust, legacy, and a deep understanding of the local landscape. To provide superior service, the right partner should know what matters to your business and the role you play in your community. That kind of insight only comes from living and working alongside the clients they serve.
At Sagiss, our story is inseparable from the story of Dallas-Fort Worth. We were born here, built here, and continue to thrive here, serving the region’s business community with the personal care only a neighbor can provide. Our local roots fuel everything we do, from how we respond to support requests to how we help clients plan for the future.
From User Group to Industry Pioneer
The Sagiss story begins in 1992, when co-founders Karl Springer and Jim Lancaster first crossed paths at a software users’ group meeting. United by a shared passion for technology and innovation, the two soon began working together at Middleton, Burns & Davis, PC (MBD), a Dallas-based CPA firm. At the time, Jim was also serving as the Controller for the Dallas Cowboys—a detail made even more memorable by the resume and letter he mailed to Karl on official Cowboys letterhead, which still hangs in the office today.
At the time, paperless offices were more dream than reality, but Karl saw a future in which digital workflows would be the norm. With Jim onboard as a network administrator and accounting software consultant, MBD blazed a trail. Under Karl’s leadership and Jim’s technical execution, the firm became one of the first to go fully paperless in 1994, a nearly unheard-of feat at the time.
As their technical success grew, so did demand. MBD’s internal tech arm started serving external clients, hiring its first full-time employee, and gaining recognition in what was then the emerging space of outsourced network administration. This early form of managed services would become the foundation of a new business model.
By 1997, demand had grown enough to warrant a spin-off. MBD Network Services was born as its own entity, focused entirely on delivering IT support and strategy to local businesses. By 2003, the firm offered full remote access and had established a reputation for cutting-edge capabilities in networking and security.
Just one year later, in 2004, the business evolved again—this time becoming Sagiss. The new name marked a new chapter, but the core mission remained the same: help North Texas businesses use technology not just to operate, but to thrive.
Built for North Texas Businesses
For more than two decades, Sagiss has grown alongside DFW. We’ve seen this region boom into one of the most dynamic business hubs in the country, and we’ve been right there with it, guiding local companies through every wave of technological change.
We understand the unique needs and challenges of doing business in North Texas because we’ve lived them too. From navigating severe weather events to scaling for regional growth, we tailor every solution to the realities our clients face on the ground.
Our client roster is a reflection of that trust and regional focus. We proudly support local businesses like Turner & Jacobs Construction, QuickFee, PharmChem, and REI Energy. These firms represent the entrepreneurial drive and diversity of DFW’s economy. Our partnerships often span years, and sometimes decades, because we’re in it for the long haul.
Proximity Matters
Being rooted in DFW allows us to take a strategic approach to serving our customers. Our physical presence means faster response times, on-site support when you need it, and fewer hoops to jump through. There’s no “we’ll get back to you next week” or outsourced help desk 1,000 miles away.
Whether we’re helping an energy firm onboard new users or responding to an unexpected network outage at a construction site, our clients know we’re just a short drive away. That proximity translates into peace of mind and real accountability.
IT Services with a Personal Touch
At Sagiss, relationships are a critical part of our approach. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, and we certainly don’t believe in faceless support. When you work with Sagiss, you know your team by name, and they know you.
This personal, neighborly approach allows us to build trust, understand your goals, and become an extension of your business. Our engineers anticipate problems before they become serious issues. And our consultants strategize with you to make technology a competitive edge, aligning IT initiatives with your broader business objectives. Because we know your team and your environment, we can deliver solutions that are technically sound, practical, and effective for your day-to-day operations.
That level of engagement is only possible when you operate with local accountability and a long-term mindset. And that’s exactly what Sagiss has done for more than 20 years.
Your Long-Term IT Partner: Rooted Locally, Growing Together
Technology will continue to change. Platforms will evolve, risks will increase, and opportunities will expand. But at Sagiss, our foundation remains the same: people, partnerships, and a passion for helping North Texas businesses succeed.
We’re proud of our journey from a CPA firm’s internal tech team to one of the region’s most trusted managed services providers. And we’re even prouder to keep building on that legacy every single day. As the digital landscape shifts, so will we, by adapting our services, sharpening our expertise, and expanding our capabilities to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.
Just as DFW has transformed into a thriving hub for innovation and commerce, Sagiss is committed to growing in step with the region. Whether supporting cloud migrations, enhancing cybersecurity postures, or preparing for the next wave of AI-driven change, we’ll be there, ready to guide our clients forward with confidence and care.
